ArmyTimes - 12/17/17:

It won’t be ready in time for Christmas, but the exact version of the Army’s new handgun will be for sale in limited supply in just a few months.

Sig Sauer plans to sell 5,000 of the M17 Modular Handgun System 9 mm pistol as early as May, said Tom Taylor, the company’s chief marketing officer.

Each of the handguns will have its individual serialized number with a matching coin and certificate of authenticity, Taylor said.

Gun enthusiast? Get yourself the same firearms the Army uses. Sig’s 10-year, $580 million dollar contract with the Army will provide the force with up 238,000 pistols to replace the M9 Beretta, along with the commemorative release.

The M9 has been the standard sidearm since the mid-1980s. The M17 will also see a commercial release that’ll be available for purchase to the public. This just means that the military-issue will have special coatings for parts and anti-tampering mechanisms and the commercial version won’t.

Rumblings suggest the M17 will become available for purchase around May, so stay tuned and grab yourself a rare piece.
