Military Minute - July 13th

TriggrCon in Tacoma, the Medal of Honor, and an expanded GI Bill

Military Minute - July 13th
The WAMilitary Minute gives you 4 of the latest and greatest stories from our military world every Tuesday and Thursday. Today's briefing includes an exciting expansion of the GI Bill, a Medal of Honor recipient who handed off his medal, and TriggrCon in Tacoma.

Lawmakers reach deal to expand GI Bill

“Congressional Republicans and Democrats have reached an initial agreement on the biggest expansion of college aid for military veterans in a decade, removing a 15-year time limit to tap into benefits and boosting money for thousands in the National Guard and Reserve.

The deal being announced early Thursday is a sweeping effort to fill coverage gaps in the post-9/11 GI Bill amid a rapidly changing job market.“

Medal of Honor Recipient Gives it to His Brigade

“The Medal of Honor has always hung heavily around Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta's neck. On Wednesday, he finally got to take it off.

In a ceremony marking the 173rd Airborne Brigade's new memorial to all the brigade's soldiers who earned the military's highest award, the former Subway sandwich maker unfastened the medal's blue ribbon from his neck and handed it over to the brigade commander.”
