Esper, the current vice president of government relations at Raytheon, would bring a host of experience in the defense industry and in Washington politics to the post if confirmed.
He is a former Army lieutenant colonel who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1986. He served for more than a decade on active duty, including a combat tour in Iraq during the first Gulf War."
McCain Diagnosed with Brain Tumor

Doctors diagnosed the 80-year-old pro-defense stalwart after surgery to remove a blood clot near an eyebrow. Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot, and scanning since reveals "the tissue of concern was completely resected," according to a statement from his office released Wednesday night."
