Military Minute - November 30th

Thunderbirds, Madigan Job Fair, VA Treatment, and The Punisher

Military Minute - November 30th
On today's episode of the Military Minute, we're looking at the former commander of the Thunderbirds, hyperbaric oxygen at the VA, the premiere of The Punisher on Netflix, and the Madigan Job Fair.

Commander of Thunderbirds Relieved

Lt. Col. Jason Heard, the commander of the Thunderbirds, has been relieved, the Air Force announced Wednesday.

Heard, who has led the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron since Jan. 6, was relieved by Brig. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt, commander of the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.

“While Heard led the team through a highly successful show season, Leavitt lost confidence in his leadership and risk management style,” according to an Air Force release. “Leavitt determined that new leadership was necessary to ensure the highest levels of pride, precision and professionalism within the team.”

Heard was relieved Nov. 20 at the conclusion of the 2017 season, according to the Air Force.

VA to Offer Hyperbaric Treatment for PTSD

Veterans Affairs officials will now offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to some veterans as treatment for chronic post-traumatic stress disorder, despite past department findings that the non-traditional care offers no real therapeutic benefit for those problems.

The reversal comes as VA struggles to deal with mental health care and suicide among veterans, despite years of focus and funding on the issues. An estimated 20 veterans take their lives each day, according to VA statistics.

Punisher Debuts on Netflix - Here’s Every Gun

Frank Castle has finally returned to Netflix as The Punisher — and he brought an arsenal with him.

Beyond the titular anti-hero’s proclivity for firearms which dates back to his time in the Marine Corps, Netflix’s The Punisher presents itself as a gun-heavy series from its first moments. The opening credits of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest installment features a dizzying array of assorted small arms that swarm across the screen to form Castle’s leering skull logo, triumphantly announcing a core pillar of The Punisher: It’s a 13-episode firefight, dished out in one-hour servings.
