The third Friday of every September is National POW/MIA Recognition Day in the United
States. On this day those who are missing in action or have been prisoners of war take the
forefront of our minds. The JBLM community recognizes these heroes and their families in
a week-long remembrance week.
Observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day this Friday, September 14th, in a ceremony at
Capitol Campus in Olympia.
On the last Sunday of every September, we recognize Gold Star Mothers and Families
Day. The American Gold Star Mothers is an organization of mothers who've lost their
sons or daughters to the perils of war and conflict. Since 1936, we've taken this day to
expresses our love, sorrow, and reverence for Gold Star Mothers and their families.
The final Sunday in September this year is the 24th. Mark your calendar and take some time
that day to put them in your thoughts.
